Have ideas about what kind of animals roam the wilds of Kalidore and beyond? Here's the place to discus the behavioral oddities of the Kalidore Emu, suggest new ones, and just chatter about the wildlife in general.

Woot! You can stop looking under rocks, because the griffons have arrived... at least, the ones I've been keen enough to doodle So these are more just fanciful sketches to get us thinking about the species of Kalidore, and I am still very much open to suggestions of all sorts. But, without further ado (and before Del throws that rock at me!) HERE THERE BE GRIFFONS! Pocket Griffon Because Griffon in flight: A slenderly built smaller griffon: Pretty griffon: Griffon at rest: Perching: Study: Planning to steal Tyden's lunch: Not bad for what I can accomplish when I'm hurry-up-and-waiting at work... it's a definite start ;D Lady Whimsy ~

Pocket gryph is ADORABLE. Lythe & Lean is my second favorite. And the little scene with Tyden - hee hee hee. He definitely seems to be the butt of amusement lately, doesn't he? *snickers happily* Also - I think I may have come up with an "accompanyment" idea for the Singing sands of sort. A kind of dry-weather "snail" of sorts - that has chambers/holes in it's shell. When the wind whistles across them, it creates a sort of blown-bottle type sound. The holes themselves are a two-part deal - a) they assist in water collection from the occasional rains. b) they allow the snails to locate eachother over longer distances - occasionally in small "herds" - mostly for procreation >.> That's all for now.

*slips griffon out of E's pocket and replaces with a celery* Ah, Tyden.... whatever would I do without him? So useful, and versatile! Everyone should have one, lol ;D The slenderly-built griffon was actually what I was considering for the Skylands, at least where the Unicorns live, too. They are about the size of greyhounds, lean like them too, and very agile on both land and air. Too lightly built to ever cause a threat to the Unicorns, naturally, and besides I think they were offered refuge in the mountains long, long ago. So the two have an agreeable relationship, and tend not to trip over each other much at all. Of course, there might be *bigger* griffons in them thar hills ;D And even if Unicorns of are off the menu, Companions are rather tender, now aren't' they? *G* Ooooh, I like that, Del.... Whistling Snails... very plausible and clever indeed *nods nods*

Nom nom nom Tyden. I mean, err... *cough* Definitely on board with the gryphons/griffons - those cat things. The size/background seems like it'd fit in just right. And bigger ones ... elusively tempting. I likes!

Ooh, Tyden looks good and a bit wary with those gryphs eyeing his food like that. Poor guy, but it's so humorous XD I'll think of something soon... don't worry

How about sme comanion animals? Like cats and dogs. American Shorthair for cats, and maybe Dauchsaunds for dogs?
And how about silver salmon for the rivers? Occasionally you find a wise one, but for the most part, they mke stuff up, and the kore and koro totally believe them, until mom tells tem otherwise?

I think the griffons probably fill the cat niche quite nicely There may also be some larger cats in the deep forest, or in the mountains; I've always been fond of lynx myself. As for dogs, we do have wolves; they're a quiet but noble race, with a strong sense of justice laws. They live in the woods of Kaledon, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few scattered tribes live through the isle. There aren't any domestic animals because Kalidore isn't... well, domesticated. ;D If there are "dogs" and "cats", they probably came with human companions, from earth. And I'm all for people having pets in the rp, but I think they would have to earn them, sort of the way humans can slowly gain some magical powers through experience through playing as well. *nods nods* That would definitely give people more things to strive for Lady Whimsy ~

i like the whistling snails idea, and of course love the griffon idea tho i think the idea of the fish that make stuff up (tho not maliciously of course) has possibilities. maybe not silver salmon (possibly a lil too commonplace) but i'm sure we could figure out some water based animal to fill it's shoes (so to speak - unless they don't have feet...)

*drops off her aquatic fauna contribution* Ze sunset seaserpent - eats mostly fish & sharks although ... some of the more antisocial might consider eating something a bit more redblooded. Imagine they could be at least mildly intelligent - and even talk (to a degree). One of the more ... friendly of the seaserpent species that can inhabit the seas around Kalidore. I think it's because they like to hang out in the sunwarmed waters and so their brains are less likely to be addled by the cold (or their attitudes for that matter).

Because, like, Del and Whimsy don't already have enough lines/shading in queue. (Though honestly, I agree with sam )
