I suppose it's about time to let the cat officially out of the bag, since most of you have guessed or by now know anyways, so yes indeed - there is a mini-whimsy on the way! And, like any die-hard collector, bebeh has impeccable taste so is due this Breyerfest (which also explains why we won't be making the trip down to Kentucky this year to hang with our favorite americans - talk about timing? :. It's our first baby so naturally we're all really excited and anxious and excited!
Unfortunately, I've also had the poor luck of being one of those statistical women who gets morning sickness so bad they end up in the hospital, so the last few months have been a rollercoaster. You've probably been noting my absence from the boards as I've been struggling to deal with this. It's been a bit of a stinker, certainly, but if this is the worst complication I encounter, I can deal.
SO... what does this mean for Kalidore?
Hopefully, save for a few small bumps (no pun intended ;D), it will be business as usual in Kalidore.
~ The RP will carry on at pace. I've already been scheming a new format for RP3, which should make it more manageable and engaging, and less daunting to "jump into" if you happen to get behind. Another change is that I won't tie Kalidore adoptable releases to the RP any more - while there'll certainly remain player perks, with timelines uncertain, I just don't want us waiting around forever the new shinys!
~ Events will run as they have been, so every other month or so. There's a good possibility we'll request the help of "event planners" to ensure momentum keeps moving on these events, even if I happen to have a few bad days during important times. Certain aspects, like spontaneous colouring of unicorns (whether for customs or frankenkores, etc) might remain a bit delayed.
~ Breeding Seasons - current one not withstanding! - will most likely be scaled back a bit, as our next major season coincides with my due date, so that's probably not going to work, lol.
This year Delicious was able to step in and take charge of the entire Weanling Colouring Project, which unfortunately I wasn't able to do. Please be sure to thank her and give her plenty of hugs! Luckily I had 99% of the adults coloured before I got sick (yeah, I like to work backwards, lol) so once we get moving on the Naming Thread, no one will experience any further delays.
Next season will definitely require the assistance of more midwives (foal & weanling colourist) to ensure the season transitions smoothly. But because of the need to hire more staff, this might result in a rising/reworking of breeding fees, to ensure all these dedicated artists are compensated for their talent and time. It is very important to me that I continue to produce the adult unicorns, not because I think that other artists aren't up to snuff, but because I believe there's certain expectations with a Kalidore unicorn, and I don't want anyone to feel like they've been given the "bait and switch" if their unicorns isn't coloured by the person they expected.
Nothing has been finalized, but I did want to give the heads up now so people aren't confused when next season unfolds a little differently!
~ Other developments include a new website in the works and the ongoing creation of a master Unicorn Database; another of Del's pet projects, when completed the database should be completely searchable and make finding unicorns (or examples of colours, stone traits, etc) a whole lot easier! The website is my project, which, currently, has become a lower priority as I work to complete more immediate projects; it is my goal to create a concise, comprehensive showcase for the different aspects of Kalidore, but currently haven't got a timeline for its completion.
So... that's where we are and where we're going!
If any one has any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to voice them here, or contact myself or Lady E privately if you prefer. I wanted to strongly assure everyone that Kalidore isn't changing, and certainly isn't going anywhere, even if some of the ways we do things evolves a bit over the next few months. Because this is a community-based adoptable, I think it's important for the community to know what's happening, so that we can work together to tackle any unforeseen issues that might pop up.
I'm very excited for the future of Kaldiore (and well, the future in general! ;D) and I look forward sharing it with all of you!
