Eventually this will contain all of my characters but here is Lilaini's long overdue profile
Human Characters ~[/u]
Name: Lilaini
Age: 25ish
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Height: 5’7”
Companion: Gypsy
RP Colour: SeaGreen
Physical Appearance & Apparel: Lilaini is 5’7” with deep green eyes and dark brown hair. She has a slender figure but she is physically fit from her lifestyle on Kalidore. Despite the fact clothing and fashion is of no importance on Kalidore, she can not entirely get rid of her love for clothing and still wears corsets on a nearly daily basis despite the fact they are rather impractical. She appreciates good material and although the art of sewing and stitching clothing was not encompassed by her previous knowledge of needlework, she quickly picked it up and now is the resident Kalidorian seamstress. She has a closet full of dresses, although she can see the practicality of wearing men’s clothes she hasn’t been able to totally accustom herself to the idea of wearing them.
Magic Type: (if applicable) Air – Element of the Mind ~ Psoinic / awareness - active
Skills & Abilities: Being that Lilaini is a Guardian she, like Rhaine, has an affinity for controlling the gates although unlike her friend, she has never attempted to open a gate without the others assistance. The gates are portals which tie the universe together, and when working together, the Guardians are able to summon, manipulate or even create these gates. She was unaware of any ability of this nature when she arrived on Kalidore until she began apprenticing under The Daiga, whereas her day-to-day magical abilities became apparent almost immediately.
Lilaini’s everyday magical ability is telekinesis – the ability to move objects with thought. She is still honing the ability, and is capable of much more than she is aware of. When she first arrived in Kalidore, she had little control on this ability and it would manifest itself when she began feeling angered or upset. Given the tumultuous circumstances of her arrival, she was prone to moments of despair or fits of anger, which would result in many flying objects. Under The Daiga’s instruction, she has learned to control her emotions (most of the time) and to control her magical abilities as well, but this form of magic is extremely draining and as such she continues to practice and strengthen her mind to increase her abilities.
Personality Strengths & Weakness: Many of Lilaini’s strengths are also her weaknesses. She is very strong willed and opinionated, two qualities which used to give her parents no end of grief in her old life. She always seemed to be born of a slightly more distant era where the women were taken more seriously. Lilaini is an excellent leader and strives to do the best she can for those around her, but this can also lead her to be very stubborn and she has difficulty sharing responsibility with others. She tends to take everything onto herself as she is often of the opinion that if you want something done properly you should do it yourself. She is quite mentally and physically strong, but so much so that she often ignores her own limitations and will overdue things. To have these limitations brought to light is something she has little ability to cope with and will only strive to prove herself with more vigilance.
That being said, she can often times come off as being somewhat difficult compared to her easy going friends Tyden and Rhaine, but deep down she is a very compassionate and loving person. She would do anything to help a friend, or any creature in need and would put herself in harms way to protect others. Despite her self doubts, she reacts well under pressure and the doubts only surface after the crisis has ended. She also has been known to have a temper, although it generally is only aloud to surface around Tyden as her patience with others is much greater.
Relationships: Gypsy is Lilaini’s bonded companion and constant partner. The two are rarely seen apart, and indeed being apart causes both of them much anxiety. They hide almost nothing from one another and Gypsy is always there to support her much younger companion. Their minds are generally in perfect sync and often conversion (verbal or mental) is not needed between the two to know what the other is thinking.
Rhaine is Lilaini’s fellow Guardian and best friend. Despite being the same age, Lilaini often feels protective of Rhaine because the young woman’s magical abilities always seem to be inflicting themselves upon her, something which Lilaini herself would be unable to cope with, and she feels a need to shield her friend from outside sources. That being said, she also admires Rhaine’s strength which is so much greater than her own, although she realizes her fellow guardian does not see this quality in herself. They are opposites in many personality traits, but their line of thinking is very intune and they usually agree on all the important points.
Tyden and Lilaini often times outwardly have a rocky friendship. His jovial, outgoing personality often conflicts with her own, and he certainly knows how to push her buttons. Despite this, she really does find him entertaining and greatly enjoys his company on most occasions. He has always been her sparring partner and while she enjoys trying to have the advantage over him in jest, in reality she would stand with him to face any adversary.
Character History -
Lilaini grew up in an upper middle class family in England in the mid 1700s. Her father was a fairly wealthy merchant who was stern cold to his daughters most of the time. Her mother was fickle woman, who only cared for appearances and high society, she has little interest in what her children did other than to ensure they were representing the family well. Both her parents shunned Lilaini’s scholarly interest, and tried to steer her towards more feminine activities such as dancing, painting and music. She put on a good front and attempted to do all that was asked of her. She danced with gusto, and enjoyed wearing the beautiful gowns her father would bring for her. She enjoyed the admiring glances she received, and played the part her parents expected of her in public. She painted adequately, and learned to play the piano at a young age although no amount of vocal training seemed to assist her, and that area of music was quickly abandoned.
While Lilaini engaged in the activities that her parents insisted upon with a great deal of enjoyment, there was always a side of her that yearned to be different and enjoyed doing things that were not considered desirable for a young woman to be doing. She always had an affinity for horses, and when she was young her father would indulge her and allow her to go down to the stable and ride the bay pony he had purchased for her and her sisters. But as she grew, this passion became less acceptable, and she was told she must not go down to the stables as she had more ladylike tasks to engage in. By the age of 10, she was having to sneak down to the stable anytime her father was from home, as her mother was often too self absorbed to notice where her children were at any given time. The stablemaster was in league with her father, and if he saw her sneaking into the stables he was sure to inform him at once. Despite this alliance, Lilaini became good friends with the stablemaster’s apprentice, a young boy Taylor, who was only a year her elder. They had several signals they had worked out between one another, and when the coast was clear, Taylor would sneak the bay pony out of the stable yard on some pretence of putting it out to pasture, and would meet Lilaini with the pony in tow.
As the years passed, this relationship developed, and not unaware to either party as was often the case with young love. By the age of 16, Lilaini knew she was in love with Taylor and their secret encounters began of a different nature. Despite how infrequently they saw one another, each seemed able to deal with how things were until rather cool evening in September when Lilaini’s father returned home from a trip with a colleague of his. The man was presented to Lilaini and she was informed he was a 35 year old, very wealthy merchant to whom she was now betrothed. She had difficulty in hiding the horror from this new information and was almost unable to resist from running down to the stable yards that instant. But resist she did,, and she kept up the pretence of gaiety which was to be expected in a young woman who was being given such a suitable match.
When darkness fell, she hurried down to the stable yard to relay all the had come to pass, and the young lover’s agreed to run away together the following evening. She hurried back to the house, a newfound feeling of joy replaced the dread which had come to reside within her in the last few hours and she busied herself with making her secret preparations. In the morning, Taylor feigned to the stablemaster that his mother was quite ill and that he must be off that very hour to be by her side so as to not lead to any suspicion. He was to take the money Lilaini had given him and purchase them two tickets on the next ferry, and neither of them cared where it took them. Lilaini was to sneak out the following evening once everyone had gone to bed, and meet her lover on the boat that was to carry them to their new lives together. As with many stories of this nature, this fated meeting was not meant to take place. The stablemaster became suspicious of Taylor’s sudden departure, and upon a rather ruthless interrogation of his younger brother who also worked at the stables, the truth was learned and the information was quickly dispatched to Lilaini’s father.
Lilaini had only just managed to slip out of the house and mount her horse when shouts and clattering were heard from her house. Realizing her absence must have been made known, she spurred her horse on and raced to designated meeting place. Despite her best efforts, she soon heard the sound of hoofbeats behind her in the darkness and her father’s angry shouts. She was nearing the docks and began to slow her horse, realizing that while she would reach the boats before her father, the boat was not going to leave the dock before he arrived. Finding Taylor with her would be the same as sentencing him to death even if he did not know the extent of their relationship as of yet. She withheld a sob as she wrenched her horse to the side and tore off in a different direction, leading her pursuer away from her lover. She saw the boat set off and leave the docks, and she felt certain she could see Taylor standing there, waiting for someone who would never show, although at the distance and darkness of the night this would not have been possible.
As she flew, she wondered what he was thinking. What he thinking she had changed her mind? Decided that she didn’t really love him and that leaving her life of luxury for a life of poverty just for the sake of love was not worth it anymore? The ideas coursed through her mind as her horse began to slow with fatigue. The hoofbeats behind her were steadily getting closer and she now unsure of where she was going or what she planned on doing. She had put all of her bets on this one hand and now that it hadn’t played out she was left feeling lost. At this precise moment, her horse stumbled, whether from fatigue or from attempting to run in dark, and he went down pitching Lilaini off his back. She landed hard, but managed to be unhurt and standing up, she began to run blindly through the woods until she could run no more and fell from exhaustion.
When she awoke, she was in a strange land but felt much more complete than she had in her entire life. A bronze mare with a horn protruding from her forhead was hovering over her with a look of concern in her ancient green eyes. The Daiga was also there and they both began soothing and explaining where she was. Shortly into this narrative, four others arrived. Rhaine, Tyden, Muse and Mare Imbrium entered the scene and soon she began to grasp what had happened. Lilaini began to study under the The Daiga alongside Rhaine and towards the end of this apprenticeship is where we currently find Lilaini.
